Why would a restaurant work with FDR versus their own culinary team?
Well, for starters, a lot of big restaurant companies do not have executive or corporate chefs on staff. In these cases, FDR is an excellent partner because we can manage the entire process–from menu development to market research. Also, we have the facility, staff, and expertise to do menu and product development faster and less expensive than can typically be done in-house.
Do food and beverage manufacturers work with FDR, too?
FDR clients include restaurants and food/beverage manufacturers. The consumer research process is subtly different for each category, but we have mastered them all.

When is the best time to do beverage and food market research?
Any time of year is a good time, but if you want to introduce products or menu items early next year, you better get testing early in the year. Note, our busiest times are the first and second quarters when we often work at maximum capacity. If you are new to market research and insights, keep that in mind.
How much does consumer research cost?
Costs vary greatly since we offer everything from kitchen rental to our full-service 3C Development Process, but fees start at $2,000. We also have a-la-carte options to meet your needs. Please
request a bid for more information.
Can we rent your facility and do our own market research study?
The FDR Research & Innovation Center is available for rent. While we are available to orchestrate the market research experience and the culinary development from start to finish, you are welcome to use our space and manage the rest.
Do you only do marketing research for the food and beverage industries?
While our main focus lies within the food and beverage industries, our space and staff are equipped to conduct consumer and/or B2B research for any industry including those in consumer packaged goods (CPG) industries, automotive, retail, and much more.
Why is Colorado the best place to do food marketing research?
Colorado is a melting pot of folks from all over the country. Here we have a mix of people ranging in age, education, ethnicity, interests, tastes, and place of origin. In fact, Colorado is often a testing ground for many multi-location restaurant brands. Learn more about Colorado and how it is
ideal for market research in our infographic.
How will you make sure to get the respondents we need?
Through our partners in respondent recruiting, we have this piece down to a science. We know who the heavy users are and only recruit respondents who can give you the kind of feedback you need.
How big does a sample size need to be?
It depends on the research. For a CLT, we recommend you have at least 120 respondents in your sample. For a focus group, we recommend 10-12 respondents, and depending on the nature of the study, we recommend running up to 3 focus groups. And note that we always over-recruit to ensure you get the maximum amount of data.
What types of marketing research do you do at FDR?
The sky is the limit, but our most requested services include focus groups, sensory testing, comparison testing, central location testing (CLTs), and on-site/in-store interviews or customer intercept surveys.
How is FDR different from other test kitchens and market research facilities?

Furthermore, we are continuously growing our database to help better find your target audience, have state of the art video and audio throughout the entire facility, and are experts in our field.
Is the FDR Research & Innovation Center available for rent?
Our Denver market research facility is available for rent to chefs and culinary organizations, and it is ideal for menu development, team building, off-site meetings, and more.
